From lgj at usenix.org Wed Dec 2 13:33:29 2009 From: lgj at usenix.org (Lionel Garth Jones) Date: Wed, 2 Dec 2009 10:33:29 -0800 Subject: [ocuug] USENIX TaPP '10 Submissions Deadline Approaching Message-ID: <70FE80F4-59E4-40A6-965B-7695F895FE3B@usenix.org> We're writing to remind you that the submissions deadline for the 2nd USENIX Workshop on the Theory and Practice of Provenance (TaPP '10) is approaching. Please submit all work by December 14, 2009, 11:59 p.m. PST. More information and submission guidelines are available at http://www.usenix.org/tapp10/cfpb TaPP '10 will bring together researchers and practitioners doing innovative work in the area of provenance. Provenance, or meta-information about computations, computer systems, database queries, scientific workflows, and so on, is emerging as a central issue in a number of disciplines. The TaPP workshop series builds upon a set of Workshops on Principles of Provenance organized in 2007-2009, which helped raise the profile of this area within diverse research communities, such as databases, security, and programming languages. We hope to attract serious cross-disciplinary, foundational, and highly speculative research and to facilitate needed interaction with the broader systems community and with industry. The Program Committee invites you to submit either full papers describing relatively mature work or short papers on ongoing work. We welcome submissions addressing research problems involving provenance in any area of computer science, including but not limited to: - Databases - Programming languages and software engineering - Systems and security - Workflows/scientific computation We look forward to receiving your submissions! Please submit all papers by April 9, 2010, 11:59 p.m. PDT (firm deadline). HealthSec '10 is intended as a forum for lively discussion of aggressively innovative and potentially disruptive ideas on all aspects of medical and health security and privacy. A fundamental goal of the workshop is to promote cross-disciplinary interactions between fields, including, but not limited to, technology, medicine, and policy. Surprising results and thought-provoking ideas will be strongly favored; complete papers with polished results in well-explored research areas are comparatively discouraged. Position papers will be selected for their potential to stimulate or catalyze further research and explorations of new directions, as well as for their potential to spark productive discussions at the workshop. Workshop topics are solicited in all areas relating to healthcare information security and privacy, including: * Security and privacy models for healthcare information systems * Industrial experiences in healthcare information systems * Deployment of open systems for secure and private use of healthcare information technology * Security and privacy threats against and countermeasures for existing and future medical devices * Regulatory and policy issues of healthcare information systems * Privacy of medical records * Usability issues in healthcare information systems * Threat models for healthcare information systems Submissions are due Friday, April 9, 2010, 11:59 p.m. PDT (firm deadline). Tomorrow Wednesday (December 16) is the third Wednesday of the month. For those who do not remember, (that's everyone, as this is a change to our schedule) that means the Ottawa-Carleton Unix Users Group gets together for an evening of conversation, beverages and food (not necessarily in that order). Last months turnout was great, lets keep it going. If you have the free time, come out and let us know what's been happening with you.
